I Built a To-Do List Game With Canva AI Code Generator — and It’s Really Fun

Let me just say this upfront: I’m not a developer. I don’t write code. I don’t spend weekends hacking on side projects or building web apps for fun.
But I do like testing out new tools — especially ones that promise to turn ideas into real, working things without needing a Computer Science degree. So when I stumbled across Canva’s new AI Code Generator, I figured I’d try it out. No big plan. Just curiosity.
Could I build something useful? Something creative? Maybe even… fun?
Turns out, yes. I created a little web app — a To-Do List Game — that takes your boring daily tasks and gives each one a random, fun twist.
Canva AI Code Generator: Where Creativity Meets Code (Without the Headache)
If you have it, but haven’t used it yet, Canva’s AI Code Generator is seriously the cooler AI experience I´ve had lately. It lets you describe what you want to build — like “a tip calculator,” “a countdown timer,” or in my case, “a to-do list game with random fun suggestions” — and then it actually generates a working version of that tool.
You don’t need to install anything. You don’t even need to know what a div or a variable is. You just describe the logic, and Canva gives you something you can publish instantly or customize inside the Canva editor.
My Idea: Make Task Lists Fun Again
Here’s what I asked Canva’s AI to create:
“A fun to-do list game where users enter up to 5 tasks. Each one should receive a unique, random, fun suggestion to make the task feel more playful. Suggestions should be general and shouldn’t repeat.”
Within seconds, it built the logic, paired it with simple styling, and dropped the code into a visual editor where I could adjust fonts, colors, and layout. I added some light design polish (because… Canva) and hit publish.
Just like that, my little interactive game was live.

👉 To-Do List Game: Fun Suggestions
Here’s how it works:
- Type in a few things you need to do today (up to five).
- Hit Transform.
- Watch as each item is instantly paired with a unique, creative prompt that makes it more fun.
I promise, you’ll never look at vacuuming the same way again.
The Building Process (Spoiler: It Was Ridiculously Easy)
Before I started this project, I assumed making even a simple web app would involve learning a bunch of coding syntax. Not here.
Here’s what I did instead:
- Opened Canva’s AI Code Generator.
- Typed exactly what I wanted it to do.
- Reviewed the auto-generated app inside Canva’s visual design tool.
- Hit Us in a design.
- Share it with anyone within minutes.
No coding knowledge. No hosting headaches. No plugins or templates. Just an idea, turned into something real.
Ideas You Can Build With Canva Code Generator
If you’re curious about what else this tool can do, here are a few ideas bouncing around my brain (and probably next on my list):
- Daily affirmation generator
- Random workout picker
- Classroom quiz spinner
- Mood-based playlist suggester
- Habit tracker with surprise rewards
- Random dinner recipe picker
- “Would You Rather?” conversation game
- Birthday card with animated confetti and messages
Honestly, it’s a playground. And once you build one thing, you start seeing opportunities everywhere.
What Surprised Me Most
I expected the final game to be functional. I didn’t expect it to be… delightful.
There’s something kind of magical about seeing your idea not just imagined, but live — clickable, sharable, something others can actually interact with. The fact that I made it in under an hour, actually a few minutes, the rest was just playing and improve the details? Still blows my mind.
Also — it works. I’ve been using my own to-do list game to test it. And weirdly, I don’t dread cleaning the kitchen as much when I’m pretending I’m in a reality show competition with a grand prize.
The Bigger Picture: This Is What No-Code Should Feel Like
We’ve been hearing about “no-code tools” for years. But they’ve usually felt like either super technical platforms with drag-and-drop interfaces… or overly simplified apps that don’t let you do much.
Canva AI Code hits a sweet spot: it’s smart, flexible, and genuinely creative.
You can build tools that are practical. Or hilarious. Or both.
You don’t need a dev team. You don’t need to host anything. And you can build something totally custom to your life, your work, or your goals — in minutes.
Want to Try It?
If you’ve ever had a weird idea for a game, a tool, or an app — but figured it would be too hard to build — this is your perfect opportunity.
You don’t have to be a coder. You just have to try it.
