Daily Focus – Day 196: Specify the Finished Output

Part of Daily Focus: 365 Practical Notes for Solo and Small Business Owners.

A process needs a finish state that another person—or future you—can recognize.

Describe completion from the outside: the file exists in the correct format, the page is live or the customer has received confirmation. A visible output makes handoff and review possible without relying on the creator’s feeling that the work is probably done.

Try this today: Describe what is produced, where it is saved and who receives it.

Keep in mind: Outputs make completion testable.
